The Delegation of the European Union supports projects marking the European Year of Cultural Heritage

Throughout 2018, the diverse cultural heritage of Europe will be celebrated across the continent under the banner of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH). The aim of the Year is to encourage more people to discover and engage with Europe's cultural heritage, and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space. The slogan for the year is “Our heritage: where the past meets the future”.

On this occasion, the EU Delegation supported 12 small-scale grants, to be part of the EYCH marking. The objective is to promote cultural heritage as a source of inspiration for artistic contemporary creation and innovation, and to strengthen the interaction between the cultural heritage sector and other cultural and creative sectors. The activities within these projects (please see list below) will encompass exhibitions, music and stage performances, film projections, literary readings and art acts, workshops, photo competitions and more, taking place both at cultural heritage sites and across the country.

Furthermore, the EU developed the project "EU-Western Balkans Cultural Heritage Route", which involves a series of events on material and immaterial heritage in the region. Its purpose is not only to celebrate the EYCH, but also to demonstrate the strong commitment to the Western Balkans' EU integration perspective. The project' slogan is “A common past and a shared future”.

EU’s support also includes financial assistance to culture and cultural heritage through the IPA instrument, as well as from the Creative Europe Programme, totalling to 1.46 billion EUR. Additional opportunities for projects related to cultural heritage will be available also under Erasmus+, Europe for Citizens, Horizon 2020 and other EU programmes. The national Directorate for Protection of Cultural Heritage has also developed a programme on the occasion of the EYCH, within the campaign titled “Our Heritage – European Value!“.
